Job summary

DSRT SURF seeks a Surf Instructor to deliver safe, engaging lessons in our man-made lagoon in Palm Desert, CA. The role splits into Surf Instructor I for beginners and Surf Instructor II for advanced riders, emphasizing technique, safety, and guest experience.

You will lead lessons, assess guests, coordinate with Water Safety staff, maintain equipment, and help grow our hospitality brand in a fast-paced outdoor setting.

Qualifications

• Real experience in the water, surfing, and helping others improve.
• Able to coach both beginner and more advanced surfers as needed.
• You stay calm, energetic, and patient with guests of all ages.

Responsibilities

• Teach beginner surf lessons, covering safety, board handling, pop-up technique, and etiquette (Surf Instructor I).
• Teach advanced lessons, including maneuver coaching and progression for experienced guests (Surf Instructor II).
• Assess guest skill level on arrival and place them in the appropriate lesson track.
• Maintain a strong safety presence in and around the water at all times.
• Coordinate lesson timing with Water Safety staff to manage lagoon capacity.
• Deliver an energetic guest experience true to DSRT SURF's culture and brand.
• Maintain and care for boards, leashes, and safety gear.
• Support Water Academy programming and other coaching initiatives as needed.
• Provide feedback to the Wave Manager on guest progression and coaching needs.
