New Hope Services Inc. in Jeffersonville, IN is seeking a full-time Breastfeeding Peer Counselor to support prenatal and postpartum WIC participants.

You will provide lactation information, counseling, and encouragement to promote breastfeeding as the normal feeding method while respecting family choices. You will contact clients before delivery and after birth, document all interactions, and coordinate follow-ups via text, phone, or in person.

Qualifikationen

• Must have at least 1 child that was breastfed for 6+ months within last 5 years.
• Willingness to work with diverse families and communities.
• Bilingual Spanish/English communication preferred; written and spoken.

Aufgaben

• Provide lactation information, counseling, and support to prenatal and postpartum WIC participants.
• Promote breastfeeding as the normal feeding method while supporting family choices.
• Contact prenatal WIC clients before delivery to provide information and support.
• Educate on benefits of exclusive breastfeeding and latch, hospital start, and growth.
• Assist postpartum women to continue breastfeeding with follow-up contacts as needed.
• Explain expression and storage of breast milk and use of breast pumps.
• Maintain records of all contacts in charts and logs.
• Refer breastfeeding issues to WIC CPA/IBCLC or physician if needed.
• Attend breastfeeding conferences and trainings for ongoing knowledge.
• Plan and lead the monthly Breastfeeding Support Group.
• Promote breastfeeding as assigned by WIC staff and assist in breastfeeding classes.
• Work half of hours in office or hospital, as applicable.
