Job summary

Care New England Health System seeks a nurse educator with expertise in breastfeeding to educate patients, staff and the community. The role includes rounds, prenatal class coordination and post-discharge follow-ups to reinforce patient teaching.

Responsibilities include home visits, staff education, documentation, policy review and liaison with community support groups. RI RN licensure and IBCLC certification are required.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
• Minimum of six months job-related experience or equivalent.
• RI State RN Licensure required.
• RI State Lactation Consultant Certificate required.
• RN-IBCLC certification required.

Responsibilities

• Performs rounds on breastfeeding mothers to reinforce and augment teaching.
• Follows up with telephone call within 3–4 days after discharge.
• Serve as resource person to patients, physicians, nurses, and hospital staff.
• Coordinates prenatal breastfeeding classes and staff education.
• Conducts home/hospital visits and ongoing telephone consultations.
• Maintains documentation and statistics.
• Reviews breastfeeding policies, equipment, and literature with recommendations.
• Maintains communication with community support groups and refers patients.
