Job summary

St. Francis Medical Center in Los Angeles is seeking a Lactation Consultant to provide lactation care and instruction to breastfeeding mothers and infants across inpatient and outpatient settings.

You will promote breastfeeding, collaborate with physicians and departments, and manage supplies and data entry in the EMR. The role requires an RN license and IBCLC certification, with BLS and NRP within defined timelines; EPIC experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• IBCLC within 6 months of hire and RN license are required.
• BLS certification must be current at hire and maintained.
• NRP certification within 30 days of hire and kept current.
• 1–2 years of prior lactation/clinical experience preferred.
• Experience with data management and entry in hospital systems.
• EPIC experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide skilled lactation care and instruction to mothers and infants throughout the facility, inpatient and outpatient.
• Promote breastfeeding and facilitate change in clinical settings using evidence-based care management.
• Contact physicians, patients and departments to coordinate patient care in the department.
• Order breast pumps and supplies and restock as needed.
• Accurately enter information in the hospital EMR and manage CMQCC data.
• Educate nursing staff and facilitate educational classes for patients.

Responsibilities

The Lactation Consultant will provide skilled lactation care and instruction to breastfeeding mothers and infants throughout the healthcare facility, including inpatient and outpatient settings. Promotes breastfeeding and assists with facilitating change within the clinical settings using evidence-based care management. Contacts physician offices, patients and other departments as needed to facilitate patient care in the department. Orders breastfeeding/pump supplies for the unit and restocks supplies as needed. Accurately enters information and consults into the hospital Electronic Medical Record system. Manages CMQCC data. Does education for nursing staff. Helps facilitate educational classes for patients as well.

Qualifications

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

• IBCLC required within 6 months of hire.
• RN license required.
• Current BLS (AHA) certificate upon hire and maintain current.
• NRP (AAP) within 30 days upon hire and maintain current
• One to two years previous experience preferred
• Experience using computers for data management and entry
• EPIC experience preferred.
