Job description

This is an in-person, live-in position at Camp Chateaugay, a premier co-ed sleep-away camp located in the Adirondacks, Upstate New York. The camp serves children ages 7-17, and is seeking a skilled and experienced Lacrosse or Soccer Counselor to join our Athletics / A-Field Department. (The A-Field encompasses all athletic areas, with opportunities to assist in other sports as well.)

This is a summer, residential position from June 9th to August 13th, 2025. As an A-Field counselor, you will create and implement fun, engaging lesson plans for campers. Your area director will oversee your daily practices, during which you will lead up to six periods per day. We have dedicated soccer and lacrosse pitches and all necessary equipment. Lessons will include drills, practices, technique improvement, and leading up to games and matches.

When not teaching sports, you will serve as a bunk counselor, responsible for an assigned bunk outside of your activity. Counselors live in the bunks with 6-12 campers, usually with 1 or 2 co-counselors. Responsibilities include cabin cleanup, preparing campers in the mornings, and ensuring timely arrival at meals. At least one counselor should supervise the bunk at all times, including during rest hours and at night. Counselors should be energetic and enthusiastic to motivate campers, foster camp spirit, and create a positive experience.

A cabin counselor builds bonds with their cabin, mentors and inspires campers, and handles minor issues. Campers spend more time with their cabin counselors than with any other adult, making this role highly impactful. Each cabin goes on at least one adventure per session, such as a trip or campout, on or offsite.
