Overview

In accordance with education-based athletics, Assistant Coaches will work with Head Coaches to develop an effective coaching program plan, including skill development, practice planning, supervision of all levels of the sport, focusing on individual and team growth while instilling the highest ideals of character. Assistant Coaches will effectively communicate with Head Coaches, student-athletes, parents, and administration.

Qualifications
  • Teachers or certificated professional educators employed by the local Board of Education.
  • Persons certifiable as professional educators by the State Department of Education according to 13A.12.01.
  • Credentialed Coaches meeting the following: eligible for a Maryland certificate under COMAR 13A.12.01, MPSSAA/MSDE Coaching Certification, and at least two years of successful coaching experience as an emergency coach, including the previous year at the school of hire.
Essential Job Functions
  • Adhere to policies in the Charles County Public Schools Extra-Curricular Handbook.
  • Assist with pre-season meetings.
  • Report to practices 30 minutes early on non-school days.
  • Secure the building during and after practices and games.
  • Teach fundamentals, promote sportsmanship, and enforce rules.
  • Maintain equipment and inventory, report damages, and manage equipment costs.
  • Supervise players during practices, games, and trips, ensuring conduct and well-being.
  • Attend all games and coaches' meetings, and assist with team records and budget planning.
Physical and Environmental Requirements

Must have ambulatory skills, ability to stand, walk, kneel, and lift 10-50 pounds, with good hand-eye coordination and visual acuity.
