Laborist, Academic OB/GYN

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Boston Medical Center (BMC) and Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine is recruiting for an Academic Obstetrician in a Hospitalist Role/Laborist.

Overview

The Laborist physician will lead a team that provides safe, high-quality, cost-effective obstetrical care using evidence-based medicine and best practices. Physicians in this role will be primarily responsible for managing the obstetric unit, labor management and deliveries, including operative deliveries. The position includes rounding on antepartum and postpartum patients, providing obstetric and gynecologic consultations to the inpatient and emergency departments, and consulting for family practice obstetric providers and advanced practice providers.

Responsibilities
  • Manage the obstetric unit and labor management.
  • Lead deliveries, including operative deliveries.
  • Round on antepartum and postpartum patients.
  • Provide obstetric and gynecologic consultations to inpatient and emergency departments.
  • Consult for family practice obstetric providers and advanced practice providers.
  • Educate, train, and supervise resident physicians and medical students.
Key Features
  • Opportunity to work in a high-acuity labor and delivery unit (~3,000 deliveries per year).
  • 24/7 backup system.
  • In-house anesthesia and Level III NICU.
  • Onsite Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Complex Family Planning, Gynecologic Oncology, REI, Urogynecology, MIGS, and Midwifery care.
  • Potential involvement in obstetric quality improvement, safety initiatives, research, and hospital/university committees.
  • Full-time role: 12 shifts (10-14 hours) per month, with opportunities to pick up additional shifts for compensation.
Qualifications
  • MD/DO degree from an accredited medical school and a valid Massachusetts medical license or eligibility to obtain one.
  • Board-certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology, or an active candidate for certification.
  • Demonstrated commitment to obstetrics education, health equity, and quality improvement.
  • 3+ years post-residency experience or completion of an OB/GYN Hospitalist fellowship preferred.
  • Experience in high-volume, high-risk obstetrics preferred.
  • Fluency in Spanish or other languages is highly desirable but not required.
Compensation and Benefits
  • Competitive salary ranging from $286,213 to $388,800, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
  • Sign-on bonus of $50,000.
