Job summary

VCI Construction, LLC is seeking a Laborer III on our Telecom Underground team in California. You will lead small teams and perform highly skilled tasks to complete complex underground projects while upholding safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities include operating advanced equipment, installing and maintaining telecom cable, mentoring junior workers, and producing detailed project reports. CDL is required, 18+, and US work authorization is needed.

Qualifications

• Valid CDL license is required.
• 18 years or older.
• Authorization to work in the United States.
• 3–5 years in underground telecom construction or related field.
• Ability to read blueprints and technical specs.
• Willingness to work overtime, weekends and extended hours.
• Strong leadership, communication and problem-solving skills.

• Perform highly skilled construction tasks for underground projects.
• Load, deliver, excavate and operate advanced equipment.
• Install and maintain underground telecom cable with precision.
• Operate, troubleshoot and perform maintenance on equipment.
• Assist supervisors with plans, material management and prioritization.
• Support small workgroups to meet project goals safely and on time.
• Complete and verify detailed production reports.
• Assist with site restoration, including grading and landscaping.
• Identify and address safety and operational issues proactively.
• Train and mentor Level I and II laborers.

What You’ll Do

• Perform highly skilled construction tasks such as loading, delivering, excavating, and operating advanced equipment for underground projects
• Install and maintain complex underground telecommunications cable with precision and adherence to project specifications
• Operate, troubleshoot, and perform minor maintenance on construction equipment to ensure optimal functionality
• Assist supervisors with project plans, material management, and task prioritization
• Provide support to small workgroups to meet project goals on time and follow safety standards
• Complete and verify detailed production reports to maintain accurate project records
• Assist with site restoration efforts, including final grading and landscaping, to meet client expectations
• Identify and address potential safety and operational issues proactively
• Train and mentor Level I and II laborers to improve their skills and knowledge
• Perform other duties as assigned

What You’ll Need

• Possess a valid CDL license
• To be 18 years of age or older
• Authorization to work in the United States for this company
• High School Diploma, GED equivalent, or relevant work experience
• 3-5 years of experience in underground telecommunications construction or a related field
• Advanced knowledge of construction equipment operation and maintenance
• Ability to interpret blueprints, job plans, and technical specifications
• Strong ability to work independently and provide support in team environments
• Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and extended hours as needed
• Ability to work safely in all weather conditions
• Effective leadership, communication, and problem‑solving skills

Physical Abilities & Exposures

• Routinely: work alone in remote locations and in confined spaces with arms above shoulder level, operate vehicle and heavy machinery, squeeze, fine hand motion, bend, stoop, stand, walk, climb stairs and lift greater than 55 pounds
• Occasionally: use ladder, keyboard and mouse
