Job summary

VCI Construction, LLC is hiring a Laborer III for our Telecom Underground team. You will perform skilled construction tasks, install and maintain underground telecom cables, operate equipment, and support project planning while mentoring junior laborers.

CDL is required, along with 3–5 years in underground telecom/construction and the ability to work independently or in teams. Expect to uphold safety standards, complete production reports, and assist with site restoration as needed.

Qualifications

• Must possess a valid CDL license.
• High School Diploma, GED or equivalent or relevant work experience.
• 3–5 years of underground telecommunications construction or related experience.
• Ability to interpret blueprints, job plans, and technical specifications.
• Strong leadership and ability to work both independently and in teams.

Responsibilities

• Perform highly skilled construction tasks such as loading, delivering, excavating, and operating advanced equipment for underground projects.
• Install and maintain complex underground telecommunications cable with precision and adherence to project specifications.
• Operate, troubleshoot, and perform minor maintenance on construction equipment.
• Assist supervisors with project plans, material management, and task prioritization.
• Provide support to small workgroups to meet project goals on time and follow safety standards.
• Complete and verify detailed production reports to maintain accurate project records.

What you’ll do

• Perform highly skilled construction tasks such as loading, delivering, excavating, and operating advanced equipment for underground projects
• Install and maintain complex underground telecommunications cable with precision and adherence to project specifications
• Operate, troubleshoot, and perform minor maintenance on construction equipment to ensure optimal functionality
• Assist supervisors with project plans, material management, and task prioritization
• Provide support to small workgroups to meet project goals on time and follow safety standards
• Complete and verify detailed production reports to maintain accurate project records
• Assist with site restoration efforts, including final grading and landscaping, to meet client expectations
• Identify and address potential safety and operational issues proactively
• Train and mentor Level I and II laborers to improve their skills and knowledge
• Perform other duties as assigned

What you’ll need

• Possess a valid CDL license
• To be 18 years of age or older
• Authorization to work in the United States for this company
• High School Diploma, GED equivalent, or relevant work experience
• 3-5 years of experience in underground telecommunications construction or a related field
• Advanced knowledge of construction equipment operation and maintenance
• Ability to interpret blueprints, job plans, and technical specifications
• Strong ability to work independently and provide support in team environments
• Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and extended hours as needed
• Ability to work safely in all weather conditions
• Effective leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills

Physical abilities & exposures

• Routinely: work alone in remote locations and in confined spaces with arms above shoulder level, operate vehicle and heavy machinery, squeeze, fine hand motion, bend, stoop, stand, walk, climb stairs and lift greater than 55 pounds
• Occasionally: use ladder, keyboard and mouse
