Job Summary
As the Aerial Groundman, you will support telecommunications construction crews by preparing job sites, tools, equipment, materials, and supplies for daily field activities. You will assist Linemen and Foremen with manual labor, material handling, traffic control, site preparation, and safe work practices. This entry-level position provides on-the-job training and opportunities to develop skills and progress within the telecommunications line construction field.
Key Responsibilities (Including, But Not Limited To)
- Assist Linemen and Foremen with loading, unloading, organizing, and preparing tools, equipment, supplies, and materials at job sites.
- Perform manual labor tasks such as digging, tamping, cutting brush, moving materials, and maintaining clean and organized work areas.
- Assist with traffic control and maintain safe operations around construction activities.
- Drive company-provided vehicles between the yard and assigned job sites as needed.
- Follow instructions from Linemen, Foremen, and Supervisors while supporting daily construction activities.
- Identify unsafe conditions and take appropriate action to maintain a safe work environment.
- Additional responsibilities within functional scope based on business needs
Required Qualifications
Education, Licensing, and Certifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to obtain and maintain required safety training and certifications.
Experience
- Entry-level position; previous telecommunications, utility, construction, or engineering experience is not required.
- Previous experience in a construction or field environment is helpful.
Skills And Abilities
- Ability to follow directions and work effectively in a team environment.
- Clear communication skills, including the ability to communicate using radios, verbal communication, and hand signals.
- Positive, dependable, and safety-focused approach to work.
- Ability to identify unsafe conditions and follow established safety procedures.
- Willingness to learn new skills and support a variety of construction activities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in telecommunications, utility, construction, or engineering.
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry materials and equipment weighing up to 90 lbs.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and perform manual tasks as required.
- Ability to ascend and descend ladders.
- Ability to work outdoors and in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, including safety boots, safety glasses, hard hat, and other applicable safety gear.
- Ability to safely perform physically demanding construction activities.
