Job description

Join our team at The City of Greenville as a Laborer and become an integral part of our mission to create and maintain beautiful outdoor spaces for our community. The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of manual labor tasks and other duties as assigned. This is accomplished by working as part of a labor crew and engaging in routine recreation and parks maintenance work, as well as providing event and athletic support for special events and athletic tournaments.

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

**This position's work schedule is Wednesday-Sunday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

This posting is recruiting for two (2) positions.

  • Serves as a crew member for parks and landscaping maintenance work;
  • Maintains and repairs park facilities through manual labor;
  • Performs litter control using a light-duty truck;
  • Transports trailers, mowers, and other equipment;
  • Assist with the set-up and teardown of city events;
  • Loads and unloads supplies and materials;
  • Fills in holes in lawns and completes planting, mulching, and trimming;
  • Sanitizes trash cans, cleans buildings, restrooms, and performs other janitorial duties;
  • Assists other event staff as needed;
  • Assists with carpentry, painting, masonry, and other various semi-skilled maintenance duties;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
  • High School Diploma or GED; AND
  • Six months of manual labor experience

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of :

  • relevant machines and tools, including their uses and maintenance.

  • Work hours are between Wednesday-Sunday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • This position requires working a flexible schedule to cover special events and athletic tournaments, and may work in inclement weather conditions.
  • This position will occasionally work evenings and holidays.
Equipment Operated Light-duty truck and other assigned vehicles, various hand tools, lawnmowers, edgers, weedeaters, and other assigned equipment and tools.
Physical Demands/Working Conditions This is heavy work requiring the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for assembly or fabrication of parts at/or within arms length, operation of machines, and operation of motor vehicles or equipment; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme cold and extreme heat, noise, hazards, atmospheric conditions, oils, and wearing a respirator. The worker may be exposed to blood borne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.
