Job description

This position is located at Physical Fitness Facilities. Incumbents for these vacancies can be assigned to the Andrews Avenue or Fortenberry-Colton Physical Fitness Facility.

Duties
  1. Mow grass, lay sod, weed flowerbeds, trim and edge walkways and lawns. Prune shrubs and trees; apply fertilizer, water plants, clean out drainage ditches, shovel snow from walks and driveways.
  2. Load and unload conveyances; move materials using wheelbarrows, hand trucks or dollies; stack and arrange supplies for storage; collect refuse and recyclable materials.
  3. Dig, fill and tamp soil and gravel in earth excavations; level ground using pick, shovel, tamper and rake.
  4. Clean rugs and drapes. Clean, wax and polish floors using heavy industrial-powered equipment. Adjust, clean, oil and change attachments on machines. Wash and replace room fixtures using ladders and scaffolds.
  5. Use chemicals and cleaning solutions. Maintain stock of cleaning materials and implement used. Notify supervisor when additional materials are needed.
  6. Move heavy items of furniture and office equipment as required.
Requirements
  • Direct Deposit and Social Security Card is required.
  • Meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position.
  • A one year probationary period may be required.
  • Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.
  • Must attend Team Member Orientation within the first thirty (30) days of employment.
  • This is a flexible position. Flexible positions have no guaranteed hours. A flexible employee serves in a continuing position on a scheduled or as needed basis.
  • Must be available to work varying and/or rotating shifts to include days, evenings, weekends, holidays and events.
  • Must be able to frequently lift and carry moderate to heavy objects up to 50 pounds with assistance. Must also be able to actively bend, stoop, stand, reach, and work in awkward positions.
  • Required to stand, walk, bend and kneel for lengthy periods of time.
Qualifications

1. Three (3) months of laboring experience required.

2. Must have the ability to use, control and clean tools and power equipment used, and ability to follow oral and/or written instructions involving duties with several distinct tasks or steps without constant supervision.

Your qualifications will be evaluated on the following competencies.

SKILL AND KNOWLEDGE: Manual skill to lift and move moderately heavy objects. Skill and knowledge to safely operate simple power equipment and hand tools (lawn mowers, leaf blowers, edges and trimmers, scrubbers and buffers, steam cleaners and vacuums). A basic knowledge is required of routine maintenance procedures for power equipment.

Best Qualified Criteria: Possess 6 months lawn maintenance experience.
