Job summary

Mortenson is seeking a Nurse Practitioner to perform General Medical Examinations (C&P) for veterans in Cedar Rapids, IA. This in-person role focuses on objective evaluations, not treatment or prescribing, with a Monday–Friday schedule.

You will review service records, complete DBQ and MO forms, and ensure timely documentation within 24–48 hours after exams, using EMR systems. Active NP license required; strong analytical, documentation and time-management skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Active, unrestricted State NP license.
• Proficient with EMR platforms and standard software.
• Strong clinical analysis, documentation and critical thinking.
• Excellent time management and ability to meet deadlines.
• No treatment or prescribing in this role.
• Predictable Monday–Friday hours.
• In-person examinations for veterans' disability assessments.

Responsibilities

• Read orders and review medical history including service records; may refute previous examiners' opinions.
• Explain the exam process to the veteran and confirm claimed conditions.
• Complete DBQs and MOs through the EMR and provide documentation to the VA.
• Provide C&P exams and, when needed, order/interpret tests (lab work, spirometry, ECGs).
• Submit exam findings and chart within 24–48 hours after exam.

Description

This role performs Disability Assessments on Veterans. You will not treat, and you will not prescribe medication in this position. This is an in-person position.

Responsibilities

• Read Order request(s) including any remarks, questions, directions, or requests for opinion; thorough review of medical history including service records and previous exams. This includes refuting previous medical opinions from previous examiners
• Explain the exam process to the veteran and confirm the claimed conditions with the Veteran
• Completes appropriate Disability Benefits Questionnaires (DBQ) and Medical Opinions (MO) through the Electronic Medical Records System (EMR) during the exam and provides necessary documentation to the VA with a full understanding of the Veteran's claimed contention(s)
• Provide Compensation and Pension exams and in some cases order and interpret diagnostic tests including, but not limited to lab work, spirometry, and ECGs
• Complete chart and submit exam within 24-48 hours after the exam is completed

Requirements

• Active, unrestricted State Nurse Practitioner (NP) license without limitations.
