Wieland is hiring a Laborer III. The Laborer III will be responsible for organizing metal material according to guidelines, maintaining housekeeping in the assigned area, dismantling and separating materials using hand tools or machines, assembling and packaging metals for shipping, and performing duties in a high‑volume, fast‑paced environment. This role is located in Granite City, IL and will be fully on‑site.
Hourly Pay Range: $18/hr – $20/hr
Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 7 am – 3:30 pm
Pay Schedule: Weekly
Responsibilities
- Serve as trainer for new employees in Laborer I or II roles and assist in training staff in all aspects of equipment operation, production requirements, material, and equipment technology.
- Explain company procedures and processes; review and explain work.
- Suggest resources to improve productivity, quality, and efficiency.
- Sort and organize metal material into bins, boxes, or bags.
- Operate and observe machines that chop and separate metals.
- Sort material by hand at the shredder, shaker table, or other machines.
- Dismantle metal using hand tools or other mechanical means.
- Work in two or more departments.
- Operate a forklift.
- Work without supervision and accomplish tasks provided.
- Perform routine inspections of the work area to ensure proper housekeeping.
- Follow company and OSHA safety procedures; report problems to the supervisor, safety, or HR.
- Follow daily procedures and protocols as set forth in job orientations and training.
- Demonstrate good judgment and ask questions as needed.
- Maintain cleanliness in the work area.
- Collaborate with team members to achieve department goals.
- Willingness to follow direction of department leader(s).
- Perform other duties assigned with flexibility to work in other departments as needed.
Laborer III Qualifications
- Ability to perform manual work that requires extensive physical exertion and potential exposure to adverse weather conditions.
- Adherence to health and safety regulations; ability to wear and properly utilize required personal protective equipment such as hard hat, safety glasses, respirators, earplugs, steel‑toed shoes, gloves, full‑body harnesses, and other protective gear.
- Physically capable of understanding and carrying out written and oral instructions.
- Dependable attendance and adherence to scheduling.
- Attentive to detail and alert at all times to ensure safety.
- Prioritizes safety in all aspects of responsibility.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Medical clearance for respirator use if required, including fit‑testing and qualification.
