Job summary

City of Pontiac is seeking a Laborer II Public Works in Pontiac, MI to operate heavy and light-duty equipment, perform maintenance, and support public works projects. This full-time role involves 40 hours weekly with potential overtime and requires a valid Michigan CDL Type A or B, DOT medical certificate, and the ability to follow complex instructions.

Responsibilities include snow removal on city streets, operating plow trucks, tractors, backhoes, loaders, and coordinating with DPW staff.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 5 years of cumulative experience in building maintenance, construction, landscaping, or similar field preferred.
• Valid Michigan driver’s license with no more than 5 points on record, and no drug or alcohol related driving convictions.
• A Commercial driver’s license is required – Type A or B and no restrictions from operating a vehicle with air brakes. DOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate with a negative drug screen.
• Knowledge of road construction methods, materials, tools, and equipment.
• Understand, speak, read, and write in the English language.

Responsibilities

• Operates heavy equipment to perform a variety of maintenance and construction related tasks.
• Operates heavy and light duty plow trucks, tractors, backhoes, front end loaders, towing trailers and other equipment as required.
• Snow removal activities on public streets and City owned facilities utilizing light and heavy-duty equipment.
• Coordinates with the internal DPW staff.
• Establishes and maintains effective communication with coworkers, other City staff and the public.
