Job summary

The City of Dallas is hiring a Laborer II (Sanitation- Landfill) to perform a range of low- to semi-skilled labor across streets, water/wastewater mains, parks, and facilities. You will assist in concrete work, asphalt, drainage, and equipment operation, supporting multiple departments and crews.

Responsibilities include preparing work sites, loading materials, operating basic machinery, ensuring traffic safety, and maintaining grounds.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of equipment and tools used in various construction repairs.
• Ability to learn to use hand/power tools and other equipment specific to various trades.
• Knowledge of standard colors, configuration, and placement of lane markings and traffic signs.
• Knowledge and understanding of safety procedures.
• Ability to follow drawings, designs, and oral/written instructions from a supervisor.

Responsibilities

• Performs skilled and semi-skilled strenuous labor for various departments; participates in maintenance, care, repair, and operations of facilities, utilities, public spaces, and landscaping for the City; performs a variety of labor for different departments.
• Assists in setting forms, mixing and pouring concrete, spreading asphalt or crack seal for sidewalks, curbs, and streets; helps in laying pipes for storm or sanitary sewers, drains or water mains.
• Loads and unloads tools, construction material, and equipment; provides assistance and works with other Laborers to complete necessary work.
• Operates air/jack hammer to break out old concrete or asphalt; drives dump truck, tractor driven mowers, or other equipment; performs preventive maintenance on equipment.
• Flags traffic, sets out barricades, cones or other safety devices to help ensure safety of crew and public.
• Digs ditches and trenches, trims, shovels, cuts, and cleans debris; assists in cleaning drainage ditches, inlets, storm drains and sewer lines.
• Cuts grass, removes litter and weeds, cleans floors and facility grounds; removes hazards and ensures safety of tenants.
• Performs any and all other trades work as needed or assigned.
