Job description

A successful candidate will play an active role in the City of College Park’s operational success. The position involves manicured mowing, detailed maintenance of parks, and managing street-scraping to create a serene environment within the city.

Independent judgment is required to identify, select, and apply appropriate guidelines and procedures, as well as interpret precedents. The role involves hands-on labor and operation of various lawn equipment. The candidate should be detail-oriented with a keen eye for detail and a basic understanding of Landscape Management practices.

The responsibilities include:

  1. Working with the crew in duties and assignments.
  2. Maintaining proper landscape management within the city.
  3. Performing landscaping duties around public buildings, parks, and right-of-ways.
  4. Labor work with hand tools and other equipment.
  5. Operating blowers, weed eaters, and other grounds maintenance equipment.
  6. Reporting equipment issues to the supervisor.
  7. Occasional overtime and weekend work.
  8. Leading and assisting in event coordination and setup.
  9. Assisting other divisions as needed.
  10. Following safety and security standards.
  11. Performing other related duties as assigned.

Requirements include:

  • Knowledge of city policies, safety rules, and CPR.
  • Knowledge of construction, maintenance, and repair materials.
  • Skill in operating and maintaining grounds equipment.
  • Ability to perform manual labor and interpret instructions.
  • Effective communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail, dependability, and adaptability.
  • Physical ability to handle objects up to 100 pounds, stand/walk for extended periods, and use tools with dexterity.
  • High School Diploma or GED, valid Georgia Driver's License.
  • Experience communicating with diverse communities and working cooperatively.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and understanding of organizational procedures.
  • Availability for extensive hours and weekends.
  • Pre-employment screening including background check and drug test.
