Job summary

Southeastern Louisiana University’s Department of Physical Plant Services is hiring a Laborer/Horticultural Attendant to maintain turf and landscapes on campus under a Horticulturist supervisor.

You will perform mowing, trimming, edging, and blowing, along with pruning, mulching, weed control, and chemical applications. The role may support landscape installation and planting projects, with schedule Mon–Thu mornings and Fri half-day.

Qualifications

• One year of experience or training in farming, the care and maintenance of trees and shrubs, or groundskeeping.
• Six semester hours in a plant science or landscape field of study.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to be certified through the Southeastern Defensive Driving Course.

Responsibilities

• Mow, string trim, edge, and blow turf areas.
• Prune, mulch, weed control, and apply chemicals as part of landscape maintenance.

This position maintains turf and landscapes in an assigned area of campus under the guidance of a Horticulturist supervisor. Turf-maintenance duties include mowing, string trimming, edging, and blowing. Landscape maintenance includes pruning, mulching, weed control, and chemical applications. This position may assist with landscape installation and planting projects. This is a career progression position in which a new incumbent may be hired as a Laborer if they do not meet the minimum qualifications for Horticultural Attendant. For incumbents hired as Laborers, after minimum qualifications for Horticultural Attendant are met and satisfactory performance has been established, the incumbent may then be moved to the Horticultural Attendant job title.
