Job summary

The State of Louisiana, through the Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs, seeks a Horticultural Attendant for the Southwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Leesville. You will perform grounds maintenance, assist with burial operations, and help maintain a dignified landscape for veterans and families.

Ideal candidates will have one year of related experience or six college hours in plant science/landscape studies, with a focus on accuracy, respect, and teamwork in a cemetery setting.

Responsibilities

• Assist cemetery staff with day-to-day grounds maintenance activities.

• Act as liaison between horticulturist attendants and managers or contractors for specialized issues.
• Provide scheduling support, monitor supply needs, and communicate routine concerns across cemetery locations.
• Perform other related duties as required by supervisor.

We’re looking for a dedicated and detail-oriented Horticultural Attendantto join our team at the Southwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery. This cemetery encompasses approximately thirty (30) acres with over 12,000 grave sites, serving deceased veterans and their eligible dependents.

In this role, the Horticultural Attendant will be responsible for performing grounds maintenance and assisting with burial operations to ensure the cemetery is maintained with the highest standards of care, dignity, and respect. Duties include mowing, trimming, planting, irrigation, and general landscape upkeep, as well as supporting interment activities and maintaining memorial areas.

• Act as a liaison between horticulturist attendants and managers or contract workers when specialized issues arise, ensuring maintenance tasks align with established care practices.
• Provide practical support in scheduling seasonal maintenance, monitoring supply needs, and communicating routine maintenance concerns across cemetery locations.
• Performs other related duties as required or assigned by supervisor.
