Job summary

Peckham Industries, Inc. is seeking a Laborer/Flagger to support asphalt paving and roadway construction by performing general labor tasks and maintaining safe traffic control around active work zones.

This role helps ensure the safety of crew members, motorists, and pedestrians while assisting with paving, site preparation, and cleanup activities. The Laborer/Flagger will engage in flagging operations, assist with material handling, and support with setup and removal of traffic control devices.

Qualifications

• Previous construction, paving, flagging, or roadway work experience preferred.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
• Flagger certification preferred or willingness to obtain certification.
• Ability to work variable shifts and long hours, including nights and weekends if needed.
• Strong attention to safety and situational awareness.
• Reliable attendance and punctuality required.
• Authorized to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

• Direct traffic in the work zone using approved flagging procedures.
• Assist with asphalt placement, raking, shoveling, and compaction activities.
• Prepare work areas, move materials, and keep tools and equipment ready for use.
• Set up, maintain, and remove traffic control devices according to site requirements.
• Help keep the job site clean and organized, storing materials properly.
• Coordinate with crew members, equipment operators, truck drivers, and supervisors.
• Follow safety policies, PPE requirements, and work zone procedures.

• Protect family and friends. Maintain a safe and compliant work zone by properly directing traffic and using approved flagging procedures.

Travel

Position may require up to 100% travel by personal vehicle to project locations throughout the state of New York Massachusetts, and Vermont based on the needs of the business.

Work Environment/Physical Demands

Heavy work that includes lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and moving objects up to 100 pounds or more. This position works outdoors in most types of weather, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and other inclement conditions. This position works near moving mechanical parts, active roadway traffic, and loud equipment. This position requires the ability to stand for extended periods of time and frequently bend, kneel, squat, climb, walk, sit, reach, balance, drive, and perform repetitive motions. The position also requires manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination, and the ability to maintain visual awareness of surroundings for safety purposes. Frequent use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required.
