Qualifications

  • Class A Commercial Driver's License preferred.
  • 6 months experience in utility construction.
  • Ability to read prints and interpret utility maps.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all phases of underground construction including loading, digging, and removal of materials.
  • Install and maintain underground telecommunications cabling.
  • Operate heavy equipment and maintain safety protocols.

Skills

Effective communication skills

Education

Job description

Overview:

Laborer duties will include general labor duties related to telecommunications construction as directed by the Foreman/Supervisor.

Responsibilities:
  • All phases of underground construction including but not limited to: loading, driving, delivery, digging, removal, and placement of various types, sizes, and weights of construction materials and equipment.
  • Hand dig using shovel and mechanical tools.
  • Install and maintain underground telecommunications cabling.
  • Climb into and out of equipment (trucks, cars, backhoes, trenchers, etc.).
  • Operate or work around heavy equipment and machinery.
  • Work in congested or remote areas.
  • Maintain visual and audible contact with crew members and all moving or stationary persons, vehicles, and objects to ensure safe coordination of movement.
  • Perform general construction work under the direction of Foreman/Supervisor.
  • Flagging, property or worksite restoration.
  • Maintain safe working habits/conditions according to all regulations, procedures, and policies.

Additional requirements include passing a pre-employment drug screen and background check, basic knowledge of utility trucks and hand tools, effective communication skills, and the ability to work at least 8 hours per day, 5 days a week, with potential overtime, after-hours, weekends, or on-call work.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Class A Commercial Driver's License
  • 6 months of experience in utility construction
  • Ability to read prints and interpret utility maps.
Physical Requirements:
  • Stand, crouch, sit, bend, handle or feel with hands, reach high and low, and perform physical activities such as climbing, balancing, crawling, lifting, and stooping.
  • Work while wearing safety gear.
  • Work in adverse weather conditions including extreme heat, cold, wind, rain, snow, sleet, dust, and adverse driving conditions.
  • Potential exposure to dust, fumes, or airborne pathogens.
  • Lift/carry up to 50 lbs regularly and up to 100 lbs as needed.
