SUMMARY
We, here at Georgia Stone Products, are seeking a safety oriented, experienced, self-motivated Grounds Person. This position is responsible for the safe ground's operations, such as greasing equipment and routine maintenance in and around the quarry. An ideal candidate will have a hands-on approach with a mechanical aptitude.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintains work area in orderly and hazard-free condition in plant area according to instructions by plant Foreman.
- Maintains cleanliness within and around the plant area, which includes tasks such as pressure washing, shoveling/removing debris from the floor, and cleaning tunnels and conveyor structures.
- Checks guards, safety devices and warning signs to determine they are in proper position and in good working order.
- Performs any daily servicing and maintenance on plant equipment as needed and in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications, using ladders to access platforms, and landings.
- Grease bearings and crushers and do inspections of stationary equipment.
- Use dingo to help clean piles of spillage.
- Safely and efficiently operate heavy equipment such as bob cat, skid steer, man lift, water truck, and haul truck, as needed. Report any problems to your manager.
- Perform daily pre-and-post inspections with appropriate documentation in compliance with company policies.
- The selected candidate will be required to work in a team environment with other co-workers and managers.
- When working with co-workers, constant eye contact will be maintained when backing, communicating using hand signals or other movements.
- Properly follow all Federal, State and company policies, and OSHA / MSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment.
QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS
- Be at least age 18 years of age due to nature of working environment.
- Minimum high school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
- Previous related experience in the construction field and/or training preferred.
- Great attention to detail with a desire to learn.
- Basic equipment operation understanding/experience.
- Good vision and hearing are important for identifying and addressing equipment issues and safety concerns.
- Capable of bending, kneeling, squatting, and crawling to access and work on machinery in tight or awkward spaces.
- The ability to work in confined spaces, climb on equipment or structures, and navigate uneven terrain is important in an aggregate plant environment.
- Safely work in various weather conditions, with the ability to tolerate exposure to heat, cold, and other environmental factors.
- Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times.
- Consists of a typical daily schedule of 6am-5pm with the willingness to work overtime, nights and weekends when necessary.
- Strictly adhere to safety requirements.
- Have the willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
Applicants must be 21 years of age to drive a commercial vehicle and 20 years of age for all other vehicles; valid driver's license and company approved driving record is required if authorized to drive either a company or personal vehicle for business purposes.
