Job summary

Martin Sprocket & Gear Inc. in Scottdale, GA is seeking a reliable Laborer to support manufacturing of mechanical power transmission components. You will follow production instructions, prepare surfaces, apply coatings, inspect parts, and assist with assembly and material handling on a fast-paced 2nd shift.

The role emphasizes safety, teamwork, and precision. Candidates should have basic math and tool proficiency, able to read English instructions, lift and move heavy items, and comply with PPE

Qualifications

  • Math and literacy: read English instructions and complete simple logs/reports.
  • Skilled in operating hand and power tools in a manufacturing setting.
  • Forklift experience: operate forklifts safely in production.
  • Ability to read a tape measure to 1/16 inch; blueprint reading a plus.
  • Capable of lifting, pushing, pulling, and positioning heavy items.
  • Reliable in adhering to scheduled hours and safety procedures.
  • Comfortable in a non-climate-controlled environment performing repetitive tasks standing long hours.
  • Team-oriented and accurate in daily tasks.

Responsibilities

What You’ll Do:

  • Follow production instructions: Interpret process sheets, blueprints, and supervisor instructions (written/verbal) to complete production tasks accurately.
  • Prepare surfaces for painting: Clean, mask, plug, or block surfaces not to be coated, ensuring all items are ready for finishing.
  • Apply coatings: Precisely apply paint or other coating material to both stock and custom parts, avoiding overspray and ensuring even coverage.
  • Inspect parts: Verify stenciling accuracy against blueprints and check for defects, performing patching and grinding as needed to meet quality standards.
  • Ensure quality finish: Achieve smooth, even coating free of runs, pinholes, or bare spots. Recoat or touch up as needed to achieve the desired thickness and finish.
  • Adhere to safety protocols: Follow all safety guidelines, including wearing required PPE and safely maneuvering parts using manual techniques or hoists.
  • Maintain equipment: Clean and maintain spray booths, application equipment, filters, and tanks according to established practices to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Inventory management: Ensure necessary painting and coating supplies are stocked and available.
  • Transfer finished parts: Move completed items to the final inspection or shipping area.
  • Forklift operation: Safely operate a forklift to transport materials within the plant, ensuring efficiency and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Assembly support: Use powered and manual hand tools to accurately assemble metal components as required by production standards.
  • Quality inspection: Inspect finished parts for quality assurance before advancing them to the next department.
  • Safe handling of materials: Maneuver large or heavy parts manually or with crane assistance, prioritizing safe handling practices.
  • Work area maintenance: Keep equipment, tools, and work areas clean, organized, and compliant with safety standards.
  • Safety compliance: Follow all safety protocols, including wearing required PPE throughout the shift.
  • Additional support: Perform other duties in various departments as assigned based on production needs.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Math skills: Requires average math skills, with the ability to read and comprehend instructions written in English and complete simple logs and reports in English.
  • Tool proficiency: Skilled in operating various hand and power tools in a manufacturing setting.
  • Forklift experience: Proven experience operating forklifts safely in a production environment.
  • Blueprint and measurement skills: Ability to read a tape measure down to 1/16th of an inch; blueprint reading experience is a plus.
  • Math and literacy skills: Capable of performing simple calculations, reading instructions in English, and completing basic logs and reports.
  • Physical capability: Able to lift, push, pull, and position heavy items regularly throughout the shift.
  • Commitment: Reliable in working scheduled hours, adhering to timekeeping policies, and following safety and operational procedures.
  • Environmental adaptability: Comfortable working in a non-climate-controlled environment and performing repetitive tasks while standing for the entire shift.
  • Team collaboration: Ability to work well with others, demonstrate reliability, and maintain accuracy in daily tasks.

Your Schedule:

  • 2nd Shift : Monday – Friday, 2:45 PM – 11:15 PM.
