Summary
Spire is seeking a Laborer in the Construction and Maintenance department. The C&M Laborer is responsible for a variety of tasks associated with installation, reinstallation or repair of mains and services. Majority of work is performed outside, in ditches, resulting in exposure to dust, dirt, dampness and weather conditions.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Excavation of main or service pipe, trenches or ditches
- Backfilling ditches and trenches
- Breaking pavement with hand tools
- Mixing and pouring concrete and broom finishing patches in street and making temporary repairs to pavement
- Pulling out old services, including removing and disposing of old piping
- Performs maintenance work involved in pipe corrosion protection operations such as applying green line, fiberglass, mastic, etc.
- Operates air tools and equipment other than those requiring respirator protection for the purpose of preparing piping for repair or joining including scalers
- Uses locate equipment to locate piping for internal purposes

Required Education (certifications, licenses)
High School diploma or equivalent
Required Knowledge, Skill And Abilities
- Experience in construction, working with a variety of hand tools and heavy equipment is preferred
- Clear verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work in outdoor weather environment and being exposed to all weather conditions
- Flexible to work at any Spire work site (St. Louis and surrounding areas)
- Basic computer skills including Microsoft Windows
Physical demands, environment and schedule
- Must be capable of lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Outdoor work environment - exposed to all weather conditions, in construction areas with uneven surfaces and in areas exposed to loud audible noises
- Some overtime may be required during peak periods
