Role Overview

Join us as Laborer, and you'll be looking at a career-defining role based in Los Angeles, CA. This position is Unionized and requires joining the Union organization.

Primary Activities and Responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety, operations and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA).
  • Wash rail equipment and other parts of the train including but not limited to all passenger cars. Fueling and sanding on a needs basis.
  • Clean & service cars/engine rooms, clean-up work areas and disposal of trash throughout the day.
  • General housekeeping of all rail equipment.
  • Operate a forklift.
  • Additional duties as assigned by supervisor and managers in accordance with union agreement and incidental work rule provisions.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School diploma/GED.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • 2 years of combined work experience in a relevant field (formal education may be substituted for experience).
  • Previous experience in construction, maintenance, or warehouse work is a plus (but not required).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Must have strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to read and understand safety instructions, manuals, and directives.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and team members.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and complete tasks accurately.
  • Ability to solve basic problems and elevate issues to supervisors as necessary.
Basic Competencies
  • Verbal comprehension (understand oral and written communications--both general and technical).
  • Communication skills (provide clear instructions/directions).
  • Reasoning skills (problem solving and troubleshooting skills).
  • Driving record needs to be absent any moving convictions for alcohol or substance abuse within the previous 36 months.
  • Must have basic proficiency with Windows software and Microsoft Office Suite applications (i.e., Outlook).
Physical Requirements
  • Heavy work, lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally and up to 100 pounds on a rare basis.
  • Prolonged periods of standing, & stoop/bend/kneel/crouch/balance/climb on a regular basis.
  • Push/pull/grip/carry on a regular basis.
  • Walking long distances over uneven terrain.
  • Demonstrate auditory and visual acuity.
  • Exposure to various outdoor weather conditions.
  • Exposure to equipment that intensifies the heat factor on an occasional basis.
Employment Conditions
  • Work safely to prevent on the job accidents and injuries.
  • Wear protective equipment such as hard hat, hearing protection, safety-toe boots and safety glasses.
  • Work hours may include a nonstandard workweek, overtime, and various shift work.
  • Complete annual training and pass safety rules examination.
  • Subject to random testing for drugs and/or alcohol per certifications.
  • Must pass all required assessments and a post‑offer medical examination, including drug and alcohol testing.
  • This position will be governed by a collective bargaining agreement; membership is required.
  • Active employees must complete one year in current position or craft before applying for positions.
Salary Rate

$25.34/hour
