Job summary

Thompson Construction Group, Inc. is seeking a skilled shop helper to support the fabrication shop, performing basic tasks and ensuring quality work in a manufacturing setting.

You will unload and load materials, assist with fabrication tasks, and keep work areas clean while following safety guidelines to protect yourself and teammates. The role requires good reading and math skills and physical capability for lifting up to 50 lbs.

Qualifications

• Must be able to read, write and communicate clearly with supervisor and coworkers.
• Must be able to utilize basic math and read a tape measure.
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds, climb, bend, twist, stand and reach repetitively
• Work in hot/cold/damp/cramped environments
• 40 or more hours per week with possible weekend work
• Background check and drug screen based on job location/requirements

Responsibilities

• Work closely with Shop Superintendent, Fabricators, and Fabrication Shop Helpers to meet production needs safely and efficiently.
• Safely and efficiently operates all fabrication shop equipment such as mechanical shears, press brakes, rollers, ironworkers, drill presses, saws, and forklifts.
• Takes direction and effectively communicates with supervisors based on project needs.
• Thinks creatively and applies results to safely and efficiently complete tasks.
• Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules.
• Maintains work area in clean and tidy manner.
• Other duties as may be assigned.

Position Description

Perform any combination of various basic tasks associated with the operation of the custom metal fabrication shop and do so in a safe and quality manner with the best quality possible. Primary duties will include preparing shop for upcoming projects, assisting with fabrication shop tasks as directed, unloading and loading material, and cleaning work areas.
