Job summary

Envirocon is seeking a Laborer to support remediation operations with a focus on safety and efficiency. The role involves diverse manual tasks, including fence assembly, clearing, sandbag placement, tarping, and assisting soil excavation at hazardous waste sites.

Candidates should be able to read safety plans, SDS, and labels, follow written and spoken instructions, and work outdoors in challenging conditions while wearing PPE.

Qualifications

  • Must be able to pass all required training, e.g. HAZWOPER.
  • Must be physically able to perform demanding labor tasks.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license if operating Envirocon vehicles.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret site-specific Safety Plans at each site.
  • Perform manual duties such as assembling fences, clearing areas, filling and placing sandbags, and tarping storage areas.
  • Assist excavation and hand excavation of contaminated soils.
  • Work on uneven terrain and outdoors in varying weather.
  • Wear and work in PPE; perform climbing/stooping with PPE.
  • Read container labels, SDS, and waste stream manifests to ensure proper handling.
  • Carry out detailed written and oral instructions; perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

The Laborer performs various general labor tasks associated with dirt construction while supporting safe and efficient remediation operations. The Laborer is expected to use their experience and judgement to make decisions within their limits of authority.

  • Read and interpret site-specific Safety Plan at each site; may be amended daily.
  • Perform various manual duties, assembling fences; operate manual and mechanical clearing equipment, fill and place sandbags, place tarps on trucks or over storage cells/areas, etc.
  • Assist excavation and/or hand excavation of contaminated soils.
  • Work in areas of uneven terrain.
  • Work outdoors in hot and cold environments.
  • Wear and work in different types of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Climbing/stooping while wearing PPE.
  • Read and comprehend container labels prior to touching or opening.
  • Read Safety Data Sheets (SDS) that accompany all new and existing chemicals brought to or used at the hazardous waste site.
  • Read manifests or waste stream labels on containers to avoid missing unlike waste streams shipped off site.
  • Ability to demonstrate common sense understanding and carrying out detailed written and oral instructions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Ability to deal effectively and tactfully with a wide variety of individuals in person, via telephone, two-way radio and in writing.
  • Have a strong work ethic.
  • Must be able to read and comprehend safety plans, rules, maintenance instructions, training manuals, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), warning tags, traffic signs and procedure manuals.
  • Must be physically able to perform job tasks.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license, if assigned to operate any Envirocon vehicles, and must meet the company’s vehicle insurance requirements.
  • Must be able to pass all required training, i.e. HAZWOPER.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications:

  • Due to the physical and safety-sensitive nature of this position, candidates must be able to successfully complete a pre-employment drug screening and physical examination.
  • Required to participate in routine Medical Surveillances and substance abuse program.
