Job summary

Ferrous Processing and Trading (FPT) in Shelbyville, TN is hiring a General Laborer to support the processing of scrap metals. The role involves loading/unloading materials, sorting metals, and assisting with maintenance and housekeeping in a heavy-industry environment.

You will operate mobile equipment, use standard tools, and interact with customers or drivers. Candidates must be 18+, able to lift 50 lbs, and pass a background/drug screen.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Able to read, write, and perform basic math.
• Experience operating mobile equipment preferred.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
• Able to work in dusty, dirty environments.
• Pre-Employment background, physical, and hair drug screen required.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload materials from storage, production areas, docks, delivery vehicles, staging areas, or containers using mobile equipment or by hand.
• Sort a variety of recycled materials and metals to separate high-grade metals and remove non-conforming metals.
• Operate & maintain mobile equipment including forklifts, skid steers, street sweeper, and/or water trucks.
• Perform tasks involving physical labor using tools (hand tools, torch, bander, chop saw, alligator shear, saw zall, wire snips).
• Identify scrap grade and type and any undesirable elements.
• Remove fluids from incoming materials or vehicles as required.
• Perform cleaning duties related to plant equipment and housekeeping.
• Assist mechanics in maintenance of equipment.
• Interact with customers or drivers to direct or assist them.
• Perform other general laborer tasks as required.

FPT is a wholly-owned business of Cleveland-Cliffs and has an immediate opportunity for a General Laborer at the Shelbyville, TN location.
