Job summary

MasTec, Inc. is seeking a construction laborer to perform on-site tasks in Abernathy, TX. You will help maintain a safe, clean, and efficient worksite and support overall project progress.

You will dig, spread, level dirt, lift materials, mix concrete, and assist with pipe work. Responsibilities also include safety documentation, tool maintenance, and potential travel between sites as the project advances.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED with 6–12 months construction experience.
  • Certifications listed: Tower Rescue, LOTO, Confined Space; training preferred.
  • Ability to read safety rules and operate related manuals.

Responsibilities

  • Perform physical labor on construction sites including digging, lifting, and material handling.
  • Maintain clean and safe work areas and follow safety policies.
  • Mix, pour, and place concrete and other materials with hand tools.
  • Assist with pipe joining, forms removal, and minor demolition tasks.
  • Travel to different job sites as project requires and support on-site needs.

Job description

Overview

Responsible for performing tasks involving physical labor on jobsites while maintaining a clean, safe and efficient construction site and supporting the overall project.



Responsibilities


  • Promote and comply with all Company and safety policies and procedures

  • Complete all required Safety documentation

  • Perform a variety of functions such as dig, spread and level dirt and gravel with a pick or shovel

  • Lift, carry and hold building materials, tools and supplies

  • Clean tools, equipment, materials and work areas

  • Mix, pour and place concrete, gravel and other materials using hand tools

  • Join, wrap and seal sections of pipe

  • Perform a variety of routine, non-machine tasks, such as removing forms from set concrete, filling expansion joints with caulking and rebar placement

  • General cleanup, demolition, use of cutting torch, jackhammers and placing culvert or pipe sections in trench

  • Spend time on one job or may be transferred from task to task as the project progresses to completion

  • May be required to travel to different jobsites on limited notice

  • Provide assistance on the site as needed

  • Perform care and maintenance of assigned tools

  • Perform physical labor on construction sites

  • Other duties as assigned



Qualifications


Education and Work Experience Requirements:



  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) and six to twelve months of related experience in construction

  • Or equivalent combination of training and experience

  • Training and Certifications:

    • Tower Rescue Training

    • Wanzek Climb Training preferred

    • LOTO

    • Tool Drop

    • Confined Space




Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:



  • Take reasonable care of your own and others' health and safety and of those who may be affected by the day-to-day delivery of this role by taking personal responsibility for working toward Wanzek's Zero Injury principles

  • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals

  • Add and subtract two-digit numbers and multiply and divide with 10's and 100's; ability to perform these operations using units, weight measurement and volume

  • Ability to understand units of force, pressure and torque and apply appropriate tooling adjustments for each

  • Common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form

  • Be able to work within precise standards of accuracy and follow set procedures and standards
