Job description

We are seeking an individual to perform laboratory experiments in a physical testing laboratory. This is tensile, compression and shear testing at slow to very high rates of straining. This position involves very careful technical work with testing instruments and subsequent data analysis. This requires the interpretation of customer requirements and the selection of instruments, transducers, and data processing to meet the requirements.

Candidates will have many of the following abilities:

  • Ability and desire to perform difficult and complex experiments
  • A high level of comfort with computers and instruments
  • Experience with practical problem solving
  • Willingness to work with others to solve day-to-day testing problems
  • Willing to work through difficult and complex experimental data.

This may involve interaction with customers and interpretation of customer needs.

This requires transducer calibrations, testing and results analysis.

This is a very hands-on, mechanical process.

This involves the cutting of rubber, plastic, composite, foil, and foam specimens, placing them into test instruments using clamping, setting up the instrumentation and performing experiments.

Anticipated requirements:
  • Must be comfortable with computers and custom software.
  • Must have a willingness to understand instrumentation, transducers and measuring.
  • Must have patience with customers.
  • Some experience in a design, engineering or testing environment.
  • Must have a high level of general technical competence.
  • This is a skill set generally associated with an engineering or physics degree.
