Job summary

Piedmont Urgent Care is seeking a Laboratory Technologist (MLT) to perform high-complexity testing, including RT-qPCR, and ensure lab accuracy and regulatory compliance. You will receive, accession, and process specimens, execute QC, and report results using EMR systems in a fast-paced clinical support team.

The role requires CLS/MLT education with option for equivalent training, strong attention to detail, and flexibility for 12-hour shifts, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

  • Meets CLIA, CMS, and COLA requirements for high-complexity testing.
  • Degree options include CLS/MLT or equivalent training.
  • Minimum lab training with testing in specified specialties.

Responsibilities

  • Perform high-complexity testing including RT-qPCR and other assays.
  • Receive, accession, and process specimens accurately.
  • Execute quality control and document corrective actions.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot lab instruments and equipment.
  • Report results timely via EMR and instrument software.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, CLIA, COLA, HIPAA.
  • Manage inventory to minimize waste and costs.
  • Participate in proficiency testing and regulatory readiness.
  • Train new team members on procedures and safety.
  • Support overtime as needed for operations.

What You’ll Do
  • Perform a broad range of lab testing without direct supervision, including RT-qPCR procedures and high-complexity testing
  • Receive, accession, and process biological specimens; solve specimen collection and processing issues
  • Execute and document quality control procedures and corrective actions per lab protocols
  • Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory instruments and equipment as needed
  • Verify and report accurate results in a timely manner using EMR and instrument software systems
  • Comply with OSHA, CLIA, COLA, and HIPAA regulations to ensure safety and accuracy
  • Manage reagent and consumable inventory to ensure uninterrupted testing while minimizing waste and controlling costs.
  • Participate in proficiency testing programs and regulatory readiness activities.
  • Assist in training and demonstrating laboratory procedures and safe equipment operation to new team members.
  • Participate in professional development, training, and competency activities as required by laboratory expansion or new technologies.
  • Support laboratory operations by working overtime when needed, including flexibility to meet operational demands.
What You Bring To The Role
  • Meets CLIA, CMS, and COLA requirements for high-complexity testing:
  • Bachelor’s in Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology; OR
  • Associate degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology; OR
  • Equivalent education/training including:
    • 60 semester hours including 24 hours in science/MLT coursework
    • At least 3 months documented lab training in each tested specialty
  • Knowledge of molecular laboratory techniques; RT-qPCR experience preferred
  • Strong attention to detail and critical thinking skills
  • Effective communicator and collaborative team member
  • Comfortable working 12-hour shifts, weekends, and holidays
  • Able to lift up to 25 pounds
