Job summary

Daytona State College in Deltona, FL, seeks a part-time Welding Lab Assistant to support instructors and supervise students in lab settings. Responsibilities

• Assist the Welding instructor in labs and supervise students with equipment, following safety rules and college policies.
• Prepare and set up labs for classes, including material cutting and shop equipment setup; maintain inventory.
• Maintain lab equipment maintenance records and periodically clean/check tools for safe operation.
• Follow assignments from the department Assistant Chair and perform other duties as directed by leadership.
• Relate well with faculty and students, communicate effectively, and manage multiple tasks.

Job description

Required Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED
• Vocational Certificate with an emphasis in Welding or closely related field.
• 3 months of experience

Must be able to work from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Per week for a total of 20 hours per week.

• Assists Instructor in Welding labs to oversee students in operation of lab equipment in compliance with all safety procedures, as well as, College rules and guidelines.
• Prepares/sets up lab for classes; includes cutting material, setting up shop equipment, and maintaining cutting tool inventory.
• Maintains equipment maintenance records for area of responsibility; cleans and checks lab equipment periodically to ensure optimal functioning.
• Follow and carry out assignments given by the department Assistant Chair.
• Other duties and special projects as assigned and directed by the President of their designee.

• Must be able to relate and work with faculty and students individually and in groups.
• Exercises good judgment and communicates effectively both orally and written.
• Must have strong organizational skills and ability to work in multi-task environments and maintain positive customer relations.
• Ability to supervise students in a lab environment; and have welding knowledge and skills.
• Demonstrate tool functions and safety procedures as well as maintain, repair and handle tools and tool supplies.
• Ability to do sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time, exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a recurring basis, and routine keyboard operations.
