Rutgers University seeks a Laboratory Technician for the Nakamua Lab. Responsibilities include molecular and developmental biology experiments on fish, lab management, and research coordination. The Nakamura team studies evolutionary and developmental mechanisms of the fish-to-tetrapod transition using genomics, biology, and anatomy.

Key duties:

  • Perform physical, chemical, biological tests.
  • Propagate specimens, assist with breeding, conduct procedures.
  • Handle research procedures to identify species, composition, etc.
  • Sample preparation and plantings.
  • Feed and care for experimental animals.
  • Prepare media, solutions, and reagents.
  • Conduct tests, record data, and report deviations.
  • Use analytical equipment for measurements.
  • Monitor animal health and behavior.
  • Transport specimens and maintain lab equipment.
  • Maintain lab cleanliness and safety, handle hazardous materials.
  • Train other staff and perform related duties.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and ExperienceHigh school/vocational education with coursework in sciences and 1-year research experience, or equivalent college study.
Certifications/LicensesValid driver’s license required for travel.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience with fish maintenance, molecular biology, and genotyping.
