Job summary

Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA) in Yakima, WA seeks a Laboratory Technician 2 to support the Chemical and Hop Laboratory. Responsibilities include sample prep, extraction, and general lab tasks for analysis of pesticides, residues, nutrients, and elements.

The candidate should have an associate degree in chemistry or biology or equivalent, with a focus on laboratory safety and procedures. The position offers benefits and is full-time, non-permanent, located in Yakima.

Qualifications

• Graduation with an associate degree (at minimum) or equivalent.
• Laboratory safety and compliance.
• Understand and follow detailed written and oral instructions.
• Experience performing laboratory or technical tasks.

Responsibilities

• Receive PDP samples and inspect for damage; notify supervisor of rejected samples.
• Verify sample information before logging into LabWorks LIMS; flag mismatches.
• Prepare samples for analysis per SOPs; label, weigh, store.
• Assist development/improvement of workflows per ISO 17025 and train staff.
• Manage long-term cold storage samples and notify of space issues.
• Discard samples as directed by PDP Technical Program Manager.
