Position Overview

Laboratory Technicians in the Environmental Chemistry Section participate in laboratory activities related to the analysis of environmental and biological samples for contaminants such as polybrominated biphenyls (PBBs), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), pesticides, heavy metals, and other industrial and environmental contaminants. The primary biological matrix analyzed is fish tissue, along with other matrices including meat, deer liver, wild game tissues, water, and soils. Samples are often at trace levels, requiring application of complex laboratory methods, practices, and regulations.

Responsibilities
  1. Log-in, weigh, process, and prepare samples for analysis.
  2. Operate and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment.
  3. Ensure accurate documentation of test results.
  4. Follow established procedures, policies, and safety regulations.
Qualifications

Education: An associate's degree in engineering technology, physical or biological sciences, or a related field.

Experience:

  • Laboratory Technician 8: No specific experience required.
  • Laboratory Technician 9: One year of experience equivalent to Technician 8.
  • Laboratory Technician E10: Two years of experience, including one year at Technician 9 level.
  • Laboratory Technician 11: Three years of experience, including one year at Technician E10 level.

Possession of a bachelor's degree with relevant credits may substitute for experience.
