Dr. Karen Adolph is seeking full-time Laboratory Technicians/Developers to work on studies of behavioral development in infants, children, and adults and to provide technical support for the Datavyu (datavyu.com) video coding tool and the Databrary video library to users around the world. The position is a great opportunity to gain research experience with multiple methods (computerized video coding, high-speed motion tracking, head-mounted and remote eye tracking, instrumented gait carpet, EEG, psychophysical procedures) and to collaborate in the design and implementation of new projects. Research-related responsibilities include: Programming and testing software; supporting and consulting with application users; managing lab hardware and software; documentation and maintenance of lab computers, software, and other lab technologies; equipment purchasing; web management; designing, building and maintaining mechanized lab apparatuses and video-recording infrastructure; and coding, graphing, and visualizing behavioral data.
Databrary/Datavyu-related responsibilities include: Web management, server cataloging, technical support for users, preparing scripts in Ruby, maintaining the GitHub repository for Ruby scripts, and data curation.
If interested, the technician could also build special-purpose software and co-author presentations and publications. Salary is competitive and benefits are included. Funding for the position is provided by DARPA and NIH. Past lab technicians have gone on to complete PhDs in psychology and computer science and have pursued successful careers in software development and market research.
The salary for this position will be commensurate with experience, but will range between $50,000-$90,000.
In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $50,000-$90,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.
Bachelor's or Master's degree (Computer Science or related field); a commitment of at least 2 years; technical and computer expertise; and programming skills (Matlab, R, Ruby, SPSS required; Java, Python, Shell preferred). Experience with both Mac and Windows systems is a plus. We are especially interested in a quick learner who is detail-oriented, organized, resourceful, and works well independently and as part of a team. The start date is flexible but October 1, 2022 is preferred.
