Laboratory Technician [CL5] (LT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist [CL5] (MLS) | PRN at Avera Health

Summary: The Laboratory Technician/Medical Laboratory Scientist is responsible for performing clinical laboratory tests accurately and maintaining equipment. Responsibilities include specimen collection, quality control, and data interpretation, ensuring safety and quality standards are met. The position operates mainly during weekdays and requires relevant education and certifications.

Location: Access Health Brookings

Worker Type: PRN

Work Shift: Primarily days, with possible weekends/evenings/holidays (United States)

Pay Range: $22.25 - $42.00 (dependent on experience)

Position Highlights: Join the Avera Brookings Clinic as a Lab Tech/MLS in a PRN capacity, mainly weekdays from 7:45 am to 5:00 pm.

Education & Certification Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology, with transcripts showing completion.
  • MLS certification from AMT or ASCP within 1 year of employment.

Overview: Responsible for accurate routine clinical laboratory testing, record keeping, equipment maintenance, and troubleshooting.

Responsibilities include:

  • Performing tests with high accuracy, calibration, quality control, and preventative maintenance.
  • Reviewing, interpreting, and reporting data; distinguishing normal from abnormal parameters.
  • Proper patient identification, specimen collection, and providing instructions.
  • Collecting and transporting specimens, performing phlebotomy competently.
  • Managing laboratory inventory and participating in quality assurance and inspection preparation.

Essential Qualifications: Ability to work the specified hours, with adequate visual acuity and effective communication skills. Accommodations may be made for disabilities.

Minimum Education & Experience:

  • Associate's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or equivalent, with transcripts.
  • MLT certification from AMT or ASCP within 1 year.

Preferred Experience: 1-3 years related experience or training.
