Job summary

Inova Central Lab is seeking a dedicated Lab Technician Assistant 2 PSC Float for full-time day shift (Monday-Friday, every other weekend). The role includes specimen accessioning, phlebotomy, and patient services across multiple facilities.

Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma or GED, completed phlebotomy training, and at least three years in a patient service environment with two years in phlebotomy and registration. BLS is required within 3 months of hire.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Completion of Phlebotomy training required (certificate from a Phlebotomy program or similar Allied Health program).
• Three years of experience in a Patient Service Center, lab, or physician office with two years of phlebotomy and registration experience.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association within 3 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Manage specimen accessioning and processing to provide quality specimens for testing.
• Perform specimen collection using venipuncture/capillary techniques and label specimens accurately.
• Register and review billing information to ensure regulatory compliance; provide accurate information at all times.
• Deliver excellent patient and customer service using AIDET principles and accurate technical guidance.
• Travel to assigned facilities and collaborate with teams to complete duties.
• Ensure specimens are received accurately and prioritized as they arrive.

Job Responsibilities

• Manage specimen accessioning and processing accurately/efficiently to provide quality specimens for Laboratory testing.
• To help achieve our mission, you will perform proper specimen and/or blood products collections by confirming patient/donor identification, collecting specimens in proper tubes, utilizing venipuncture/capillary techniques and accurately labeling the specimens/blood products to ensure accurate patient results.
• Performing registration and reviewing billing information accurately/efficiently in order to ensure regulatory compliance is of vital importance.
• Your ability to provide excellent patient and customer service by using AIDET principles and ensuring the correctness/quality of technical information/directions provided to customers is appropriate is required.
• Traveling to assigned facilities and working seamlessly with teams to complete duties is expected.
• Insure that all specimens received are done so accurately and prioritizes specimens after collections or as they arrive in the lab.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Education:
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Completion of Phlebotomy training required: completion certification from a Phlebotomy program or another Allied Health Training program, such as Medical Assistant, MLT or MT.
• Experience:Three years of experience in a Patient Service Center environment, laboratory or physician office environment including two years of phlebotomy experience and registration experience.
• Certification:
  • Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association within 3 months of hire.
