Job summary

Cleveland-Cliffs Rockport Works is seeking a Laboratory Technician to join our quality-focused team in Rockport, IN. You will collect, prepare, and test samples, recording results in Labware and other systems for accurate quality control.

The role requires a High School diploma, ability to work rotating shifts (nights, weekends, holidays), and a Manufacturing environment background. We offer safety-first culture, benefits, and opportunities for growth.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Positive interpersonal skills with peers and management.
  • Able to adapt to changing plans and priorities.
  • Willing to work rotating shifts including nights, weekends, holidays.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Responsibilities

  • Safety and quality compliance through daily meetings.
  • Collect, receive, and handle samples with proper identification and priority.
  • Perform mechanical and chemical testing (tensile, strength, elongation, grain structure, corrosion, carbon/sulfur, oxygen, chromate, phosphate analyses).
  • Record and report test results using Labware and approved data systems.
  • Support calibration and performance checks of laboratory equipment.
  • Collaborate with production teams for analytical and formability testing needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

Location: Rockport, IN Cleveland-Cliffs, Rockport Works has an immediate opportunity for a Laboratory Technician.

Summary of Responsibilities
  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to safety and quality by following all JSHA’s and QSOP’s and participating in daily safety and quality meetings.
  • Collects, receives, and properly handles production and analytical samples, ensuring correct identification and testing priority.
  • Performs mechanical and chemical testing, including tensile, strength, elongation, grain structure, corrosion, carbon/sulfur, oxygen, chromate, and phosphate analyses.
  • Accurately records, reports, and communicates test results using Labware and approved data systems.
  • Conducts safety and quality observations to support compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Verifies, maintains, and documents calibration and performance checks of laboratory equipment and instruments.
  • Collaborates with production teams to support analytical and formability testing needs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to interact with peers and management in a positive manner
  • Adapts effectively to changing plans and priorities
  • Ability to work rotating schedule; including nights, weekends and holidays
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment
  • Applicants for this position must be currently legally authorized to work in the United Stated on a full-time basis
