Job summary

A leading company in the petrochemical industry is seeking a Lab Technician to perform essential analytical tests and support laboratory operations. This role requires a Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry or a related field, along with at least 2 years of relevant experience. The Lab Technician will be responsible for equipment maintenance, test result documentation, and adherence to safety protocols in a dynamic lab environment.

Job description

Job Purpose:
Lab Technicians perform routine laboratory tests under close supervision to determine the chemical or physical characteristics of samples. Lab Technicians ensure that their duties are completed accurately and delivered with high quality promptly.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Perform basic analytical tests based on standards and procedures as assigned by the Laboratory Manager.
  • Assist and perform in the setting up, adjusting, and operating of laboratory equipment.
  • Calibrate laboratory instruments as needed to ensure that analysis is accurate according to the Quality Management systems.
  • Clean and sterilize laboratory equipment.
  • Prepare chemical solutions according to standard formulas.
  • Records test results on standardized forms and write test reports describing procedures used.
  • Understand and complete laboratory raw data sheets and make accurate entries into the LIMS database.
  • Ability to read and comprehend all analysis as well as safety standards in English, including ASTM, UOP, IP, and other well-defined analytical standards and procedures used in the laboratory.
  • Exercise procedural, safety, and quality requirements specified in Laboratory Manual & Safety Manual and company policies.
  • All other duties are assigned by management.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry or related science preferred, or equivalent work experience; coupled with a minimum of one (2) year of directly transferable experience working in a laboratory.
  • Knowledgeable of ASTM standards.
  • Must be able to work with all chemical, petrochemical, and petroleum products.
  • Must be able to differentiate between colors accurately by sight.
  • Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) experience is preferred.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Access preferred.
  • Have a great work history with a track record of being a responsible individual.
  • Detailed orientated.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Proficient in the use of laboratory equipment.
Travel:
Travel is not required for this position.
Working Conditions:
This position is performed in a laboratory environment.

  • Required to walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms; and to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or twist body to fit and/or reach.
  • The employee’s lifting requirement and/or moving items up to 50 pounds.
  • Be able to work in the presence of odors typical of petroleum or petrochemicals without allergic reactions or nausea, when such odors are within OSHA-designated permissible exposure limits (PELs).
  • May be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
