Job summary

Jobless is seeking an Analytical Laboratory Technician to perform sample receipt, preparation, and analysis of raw material and finished product samples in a testing laboratory.

The role ensures accuracy of results, compliance with regulatory requirements, and collaboration with R&D and QC teams.

Candidates should have a science degree or equivalent experience and be skilled in instrumentation maintenance and data recording.

Qualifications

  • BS in science or 1–2 years in analytical lab; or equivalent.
  • Experience with USP, FCC, and AOAC testing methodologies.
  • Ability to perform biological, chemical, and microbiological examinations independently.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts (proportions, percentages, volumes).

Responsibilities

  • Maintain instrumentation and perform preventative maintenance.

Job description

The Analytical Laboratory Technician is a trained, qualified individual that performs and receipt and analysis of raw material and finished product samples received into the testing laboratory. The technician must perform all job-related duties in a safe, organized and efficient manner to assure the site is compliant with regulatory requirements and customer expectations.

Job Responsibilities

The Analytical Laboratory Technician is responsible for the handling, preparation, and testing of raw material and finished good samples for analytical testing. The technician is responsible for reviewing the accuracy of testing results and initiating investigations when results do not conform to specifications.

Duties and Day-to-Day Responsibilities, but not limited to the following:
  • Receiving and recording of samples upon arrival into the laboratory. Prioritize samples to be run for the day according to shipment date.
  • Review pending orders for status of shipment dates. Interact with shipment personnel, order personnel, data clerk.
  • Perform sample preparation including weighing of samples, selection of glassware, and determination of necessary analyses.
  • Inspection of instrumentation to be used including troubleshooting of instrumentation and calibration when required.
  • Analysis and recording/plotting of Quality Control samples and data. Monitor/review Quality Control data and samples. Address situation if any instrument is OOC.
  • Elevate results not conforming to specifications to the Analytical Supervisor/Analytical Manager for investigation.
  • Preparation of reagents, standards on a scheduled basis.
  • Documents and records testing results electronically or within workorder documentation.
  • Interact with personnel from outside of the laboratory.
  • Maintain a clean work area.
  • Assists in other lab areas as needed.
  • Repairs instruments/equipment and/or initiates requests for instrument/equipment repair and/or service through vendors.
  • Maintains cleanliness of assigned instrumentation and/or equipment. Completes and maintains preventative maintenance and troubleshooting records.
  • Troubleshoot any equipment problem/malfunction, coordinate talks/repairs with manufacturer personnel, and inform QC specialist of prolonged ‘down time’ of equipment.
  • Interact with R/D personnel for testing on non-routine samples. Maintain records of non-routine samples received (required analyses and results.)
  • Maintain and update laboratory procedure manuals, work instruction manuals, and standard operating procedures. Communicate and train all lab personnel on all procedures changes.
Minimum Training, Education, and Experience Requirements

Bachelors of Science degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Microbiology, or other science related field; or one to two years related experience and/or training in an analytical testing laboratory; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with USP, FCC, and AOAC testing methodologies.

  • Knowledge of the basic principles and laboratory applications of biology, microbiology and chemistry.
  • Knowledge of current laboratory facilities, methods, equipment, materials and ability to perform standardized biological, chemical, and microbiological examinations independently.
  • Must be able to work in a collaborative environment as well as performing individual assignments.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Have experience with testing of vitamins and minerals using HPLC, ICP/AA, FTIR, GC, pH, Bulk Densities, Colorimeter.

  • Handling of hazardous chemicals including caustics, acids and flammable hydrocarbons.
  • Gloves, aprons, glasses and other P.P.E. are available and required when handling certain chemical
