Job summary

Shell is seeking a Laboratory Technician at our United States polyethylene production facility to perform testing, analysis, and data reporting while maintaining quality systems. You will calibrate instruments, support audits, and collaborate across teams to ensure safe, reliable products.

A Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline is preferred and experience in polymer testing is valued; flexible work options and competitive salary.

Qualifications

  • Experience maintaining accurate lab records and data integrity.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and non-routine testing of polyethylene products for quality compliance.
  • Document and report results accurately and promptly.
  • Operate, calibrate, troubleshoot, and maintain lab instruments.
  • Follow approved methods, safety procedures, and QA requirements.
  • Monitor data trends and investigate deviations impacting quality.
  • Provide analytical support to resolve product quality and production issues.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, safe lab environment.
  • Prepare reagents and reference materials for testing.
  • Collaborate with production, quality and technical teams to meet objectives.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement for efficiency and reliability.
  • Complete testing within production and shipping timelines.
  • Support audits with documentation and compliance evidence.

Job description

As a Laboratory Technician, you will perform laboratory testing and analysis to ensure polyethylene products meet quality standards and customer requirements at our manufacturing facility in the United States. You’ll support production by generating accurate and timely analytical data, maintaining laboratory equipment, and following established quality and safety procedures. You will also help investigate quality issues, contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, and ensure reliable product certification. You’ll be part of a collaborative team that works closely with production, quality, and technical colleagues to deliver safe, high-quality products for our customers.

What you’ll be doing
  • Perform routine and non-routine testing of polyethylene products to verify compliance with product specifications and quality standards.
  • Document and report laboratory results accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Operate, calibrate, troubleshoot, and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment.
  • Follow approved analytical methods, laboratory procedures, and safety requirements.
  • Monitor product quality data and identify trends or deviations requiring investigation.
  • Provide analytical support to help resolve product quality and production issues.
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and safe laboratory environment.
  • Prepare and standardise laboratory reagents and reference materials.
  • Collaborate with production, quality, and technical teams to support operational objectives.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance laboratory efficiency, accuracy, and reliability.
  • Complete testing activities within required production and shipping timelines.
  • Support internal and external audits by maintaining accurate documentation and demonstrating compliance with quality management systems.
  • Comply with ISO 9001 requirements and site quality standards.
What you bring
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
  • English language proficiency with the ability to read and interpret safety procedures, technical documents, operating instructions, and laboratory protocols.
  • Experience working in a laboratory environment within manufacturing or industrial operations.
  • Knowledge of analytical laboratory techniques and instrumentation, including polymer testing methods.
  • Experience operating laboratory equipment and maintaining accurate laboratory records.
  • Knowledge of quality management systems, statistical quality control, and Good Laboratory Practices.
  • Experience using laboratory information management systems and maintaining data integrity.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across different teams.
Preferred Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline.
  • Experience supporting polyethylene, polymer, petrochemical, or chemical manufacturing operations.
  • Exposure to analytical techniques and instrumentation such as Melt Index, Density testing, Gas Chromatography, Mass Spectrometry, Total Organic Carbon analysis, Inductively Coupled Plasma, and X-ray Fluorescence.

The base salary range for this position is $72,000.00 - 108,000.00 per year. Individual pay will be based on various factors, such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, seniority, and internal equity.

For regular full-time or regular part-time employees of the Company (participating companies as listed in the Summary Plan Description), insurance coverage options include medical, dental, vision coverage, life Insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs. Employees also participate in a company pension plan and a 401(k) plan. Paid leave includes up to 6 weeks of paid vacation time, up to 11 paid holidays, and parental leave offering 16 weeks of paid leave for birthing parents, and 8 weeks of paid leave for non-birthing parents.

Additionally, employees are eligible for short-term disability leave for up to 26 weeks at 100% or 50% of base pay as well as Long-Term Disability insurance. Shell also offers other compensation such financial reimbursement for adoption, wellness, education, and personal learning expenses, and some roles are eligible for discretionary long-term incentives. For interns, eligible benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs; participation in a 401(k) plan; and paid leave for up to 11 paid holidays.
