Mars Hill, ME – Temporary Opportunity

Schedule: Full‑Time/Days or Nights; 6:00 AM - 6:00 PM, or 6:00 PM - 6:00 AM

Pay Rate: $17.85/hr. + $2.00/hr. shift differential for nights

Job Description

Immediate opening for a Laboratory Technician with a well‑established food production facility in Mars Hill. Excellent opportunity for a detail‑oriented individual interested in quality assurance, food safety, and laboratory operations. This is a full‑time temporary assignment expected to last approximately 2-3 months, with the potential for long‑term placement for candidates who demonstrate strong performance and reliability.

The Laboratory Technician will support the facility’s quality assurance and food safety programs by performing routine laboratory testing, collecting samples, maintaining accurate records, and monitoring production standards. This employee will work closely with production and quality teams to help ensure that products meet all company, customer, and regulatory requirements. Ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, good attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced production environment. Prior laboratory, food production, or quality assurance experience is helpful, but candidates with strong technical aptitude are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities
  • Collect and prepare product, ingredient, and environmental samples for laboratory testing.
  • Perform routine laboratory tests and quality checks according to company procedures and food safety standards.
  • Record, analyze, and maintain accurate testing and inspection data.
  • Monitor product quality and report any inconsistencies or out‑of‑specification results.
  • Assist with sanitation verification and environmental monitoring procedures.
  • Calibrate, clean, and maintain laboratory equipment and testing instruments.
  • Ensure compliance with all food safety regulations.
  • Maintain clean, organized laboratory and work areas.
  • Assist with audits, inspections, and documentation reviews as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with production, sanitation, and quality assurance teams.
  • Follow all workplace safety procedures and company policies.
  • Perform additional duties as requested by supervisors or quality management staff.
Job Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent education required; post‑secondary education in biology, chemistry, food science, or related field preferred.
  • Prior laboratory, quality assurance, or food manufacturing experience helpful, but not required.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to accurately follow written procedures and maintain detailed records.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including familiarity with Microsoft Office software.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and occasionally lift/move up to 40 lbs.
  • Willingness to work in a production environment and follow strict food safety procedures.
  • Background check required.
