Job summary

ECS Limited in Houston is seeking a Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Laboratory Technician to join our team. No prior experience is required as you will learn under experienced technicians while earning certifications in soils and concrete testing.

You will perform laboratory testing, handle sample labeling and curing, collect data, and help maintain QA/QC standards. Growth opportunities include advancing through ASTM certifications and taking on more complex projects.

Qualifications

• No experience required; training provided.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Willing to obtain knowledge of lab equipment and ASTM standards leading to certifications in soils, concrete, or both.
• Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
• Must have valid driver's license and insurance.

Responsibilities

• Laboratory activities: Perform tasks associated with laboratory testing under supervision.
• Laboratory safety and compliance: Conduct routine tests and maintain QA/QC documentation.
• Soils testing: Carry out Atterberg limits, gradation, moisture, compaction and related tests.
• Concrete testing: Labeling/setting samples, curing, monitoring temperature logs.
• Data collection: Calculate, reduce data, and document results.

ECS Limited is offering a unique opportunity for a talented Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Laboratory Technician to join our Houston team. We offer opportunities for growth in this role with additional incentives as you earn your certifications. No prior experience is needed, as you'll work under the guidance of experienced professionals to learn to safely perform a variety of tasks in our concrete and soils laboratories.

Responsibilities

• Laboratory Activities: Perform specific tasks associated with conducting laboratory testing on construction materials for various projects under the supervision of senior technicians and other lab staff.
• Laboratory Safety and Compliance: Conduct routine laboratory tests using various methodologies and testing equipment following industry standards and compliance; Assist with tasks to maintain laboratory organization and cleanliness in compliance with Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) initiatives to maintain accreditation compliance; Tasks may include calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment following the manufacturer’s schedule and records; Notify supervisor of broken or missing equipment as needed.
• Soils Testing: Conduct routine laboratory tests for soils including Atterberg limits, gradation analyses, swell testing, moisture content testing, unconfined compressive strength testing, standard and modified proctor testing, and begin learning how to visually classify soils.
• Concrete Testing: Conduct routine laboratory tests for concrete including labeling and setting samples for curing, monitoring temperature logs, and breaking of samples.
• Data Collection: Perform calculations and data reduction based on test results; Demonstrate competency of testing methods by documenting results accurately; May perform administrative duties as requested.

• Strong communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing).
