Job summary

ECS Limited in Pittsburgh is seeking a Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Laboratory Technician to join our growing team. No experience required, with paid training and certification support to help you grow in concrete and soils labs.

You will learn under experienced technicians, perform tests, collect data, and help maintain safety and quality standards; field testing may be required as needed.

Qualifications

• Strong communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing).
• Willing to obtain knowledge of CMT laboratory equipment and ASTM standards.
• No prior experience required; on-the-job training will be provided.

Responsibilities

• Laboratory Activities: perform tests under supervision in concrete/soils labs.
• Laboratory Safety and Compliance: follow QA/QC standards and maintain equipment/calibration records.
• Soils Testing: Atterberg limits, gradation, moisture, proctor tests.
• Concrete Testing: label samples, curing, monitor temperature logs, break samples.
• Data Collection: calculate results, document findings, support QA processes.
• May also perform field testing services.

ECS Limited is offering a unique opportunity for a talented Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Laboratory Technician to join our Pittsburgh team. We offer opportunities for growth in this role with additional incentives as you earn your certifications. No prior experience is needed, as you'll work under the guidance of experienced professionals to learn to safely perform a variety of tasks in our concrete and soils laboratories.

Responsibilities

• Laboratory Activities: Perform specific tasks associated with conducting laboratory testing on construction materials for various projects under the supervision of senior technicians and other lab staff.
• Laboratory Safety and Compliance: Conduct routine laboratory tests using various methodologies and testing equipment following industry standards and compliance; Assist with tasks to maintain laboratory organization and cleanliness in compliance with Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) initiatives to maintain accreditation compliance; Tasks may include calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment following the manufacturer’s schedule and records; Notify supervisor of broken or missing equipment as needed.
• Soils Testing: Conduct routine laboratory tests for soils including Atterberg limits, gradation analyses, swell testing, moisture content testing, unconfined compressive strength testing, standard and modified proctor testing, and begin learning how to visually classify soils.
• Concrete Testing: Conduct routine laboratory tests for concrete including labeling and setting samples for curing, monitoring temperature logs, and breaking of samples.
• Data Collection: Perform calculations and data reduction based on test results; Demonstrate competency of testing methods by documenting results accurately; May perform administrative duties as requested.
• May also perform field testing services.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• No experience required.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Must be willing to obtain and maintain laboratory certifications for concrete or soils; Both will be required if work will be performed in both labs.
• Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
• Must have valid driver's license and insurance.
• Willing to obtain knowledge of CMT laboratory equipment, testing methods, and ASTM laboratory standards, leading to certifications in soils, concrete, or both.
• Strong communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing).
• Ability to work effectively with peers and supervisors.
