Job summary

Mauser Packaging Solutions is seeking a Laboratory Technician to support UN/DOT packaging tests on drums and IBCs in our quality and R&D lab. You will set up tests, enter data, and perform routine lab maintenance while supporting resin testing and QC investigations.

You will collaborate with Technical Associates and plant personnel on engineering, R&D, and QC projects, participate in weekly lab meetings, and assist with calibration of equipment.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in engineering/material science with 0-3 years of experience.
  • Experience with HDPE plastics testing (meltflow and density).
  • Ability to read precision instruments, gauges, specs and diagrams.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Proactive, able to work with minimal supervision and adapt to projects.
  • Must read/write/speak English.
  • Ability to interpret test methods and product specifications.
  • Strong organizational and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to stand, sit, climb or balance, kneel or crouch for long periods.
  • Good hand-eye coordination and motor skills.
  • Ability to distinguish color shades.
  • Must operate drum/IBC handling equipment and forklift when needed.
  • Must lift up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and perform UN/DOT tests on drums/IBCs (drop, hydrostatic, leakproofness, stack, vibration, QC).
  • Conduct QC resin testing using Melt Index, tensile tests, and hot-press for density analysis.
  • Record test results and forward to lab management.
  • Collaborate with Technical Associates and plant personnel on projects.
  • Support customer development projects and QC investigations.
  • Attend weekly lab meetings and report testing activities and safety.
  • Periodically calibrate lab equipment with master gages.
  • Perform general light-duty lab maintenance.

Job description

Job Summary

Our company has an opportunity for a Laboratory Technician to work in our quality and R&D testing lab. The position supports UN/DOT performance oriented packaging tests on drums (steel, fiber, poly) and IBCs (Intermediate Bulk Containers). The successful candidate will be responsible for support functions such as test set up, test results data entry and routine lab maintenance. Additional testing may include raw materials (resin, steel), technical support of R&D projects and quality investigations as directed by the senior management.

Essential Functions
  • Responsible for set up and performance of UN/DOT performance oriented packaging tests including drop, hydrostatic, leakproofness, stack, vibration, and QC testing on drums and IBCs.
  • Responsible for QC analytical testing of resin using instrumentation such as Melt Index Tester, Instron Tensile Tester, Hot Press for preparing resin samples for density analysis, die swell, pellet count.
  • Records UN test results and forwards to the lab management.
  • Collaborates with Technical Associates and plant personnel on engineering, R&D and QC projects.
  • Interacts and collaborates with plant personnel on customer specific developmental projects and/or QC investigations.
  • Participates in weekly lab meetings and provides updates on the testing activities, lab maintenance and safety.
  • Periodically conducts and records calibration results of lab equipment with master gages and devices.
  • Responsible for general light-duty maintenance.
Job Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in engineering/material science with 0-3 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to demonstrate ability to perform duties.
  • Previous experience with plastics (HDPE) testing (meltflow, density).
  • Use and understanding of precision measuring instruments and gauges, specifications, charts and diagrams.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Project oriented requiring minimal supervision, proactive and adaptable.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English.
  • Able to accurately read test methods, measuring devices, product specifications and test procedures.
  • Excellent organizational and collaboration skills.
  • Must be able to stand, sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel and/or crouch for extended periods of time.
  • Good hand/eye coordination and motor skills.
  • Ability to distinguish color shades.
  • Must be able to use drum and IBC handling equipment for both full and empty packagings.
  • Must be able and willing to learn how to operate a forklift.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
