The University of Georgia’s VetMed-Athens Diagnostic Laboratory seeks a Laboratory Technician to support necropsy examinations in the Athens area. You will assist pathologists, maintain the necropsy facility, and help prepare tissues for histologic analysis.

The role requires strong communication, data entry skills, and proficiency with Word/Excel. Typical schedule is Monday–Friday, with occasional overtime in a professional lab setting.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required with 2 years of related experience.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral, are essential.
  • Proficiency with Word and Excel and basic data entry into LIS is required.

Responsabilités

  • Receive and login animal carcasses for necropsy.
  • Assist pathologists, residents and students during necropsy procedures.
  • Process and dispose of tissues; maintain necropsy facilities.
  • Prepare reagents and order laboratory supplies; enter data into LIS.

Position Summary:

This position will be based in the Necropsy Laboratory of the Athens Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory. The main responsibilities will include assisting pathologists in conducting necropsy examinations on a variety of animal species, maintaining the Necropsy Laboratory, and processing (trimming) formalin-fixed animal tissues for histologic examinations.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies:
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Computer skills (including working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel) and experience with digital photography.
  • Ability to accurately enter numerical data into the laboratory information system.
