University of Georgia is seeking a Laboratory Technician to join the Athens Necropsy Laboratory. The role focuses on assisting pathologists with necropsy examinations across animal species, maintaining the laboratory, and processing formalin-fixed tissues for histology.

It requires meticulous data entry and adherence to safety procedures. Based in the Necropsy Laboratory, the technician will support multiple teams, manage supplies, and help ensure accurate record-keeping.

Qualificações

  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel; experience with digital photography.
  • Ability to accurately enter numerical data into the laboratory information system.

Responsabilidades

  • Receive and login animal carcasses submitted for necropsy.
  • Assist pathologists, residents, and veterinary students during necropsy, process and dispose of animal tissues and remains.
  • Prepare reagents and order laboratory supplies.
  • Clean and maintain the necropsy facilities.
  • Write necropsy standard operating procedures as needed.
  • Dispose of waste formalin as needed.
  • Track chemicals in our tracking system as needed.
  • Daily data entry of temperature logs and other weekly logs.
  • Perform weekend/holiday necropsy duties as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor or Section head.

Position Summary

This position will be based in the Necropsy Laboratory of the Athens Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory. The main responsibilities will include assisting pathologists in conducting necropsy examinations on a variety of animal species, maintaining the Necropsy Laboratory, and processing (trimming) formalin-fixed animal tissues for histologic examinations.
