Job summary

McLaren Health Care in Michigan is seeking a Lab Technical Assistant - Lab Assistant/Phlebotomist in the Laboratory to perform specimen collection by phlebotomy at in-house or off-site locations. The role may require entering pathology specimens into information systems and assisting with cytology preparation under supervision.

Schedule is per diem with variable daily work times; weekends are required. Minimum qualification is a High School diploma or equivalent; preferred phlebotomy technician

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Certified phlebotomy technician preferred.
• Previous phlebotomy experience or training preferred.

• Performs all specimen collection by phlebotomy from the correct individual at in-house or off-site locations.
• May enter pathology specimens into computerized information systems and assist with preparation and staining of cytology specimens.
• Performs tasks in all laboratory areas under supervision of designated laboratory personnel.

Position Summary

Performs all specimen collection by phlebotomy from the correct individual at in-house or off-site locations. In addition, obtains other specimens when indicated, and instructs patients in the collection of specimens as necessary. May be required to enter pathology specimens into various computerized information systems along with the preparation and staining of cytology specimens. Performs tasks in all laboratory areas under the direction of the appropriate Supervisor, Clinical Laboratory Technologists, Cytotechnologists or other designated laboratory personnel and has appropriate knowledge and training of those areas to be able to function as necessary.

Required

• High School diploma or equivalent

Preferred

• Certified as a phlebotomy technician.
• Previous experience drawing blood or phlebotomy training course in approved program.
• Previous experience in a clinical laboratory environment.
