Job summary

McLaren Health Care is seeking a Lab Technical Assistant (Lab Assistant/Phlebotomist) in the Laboratory department. Shift and daily work times are variable with a per diem schedule.

Responsibilities include specimen collection by phlebotomy from the correct individual, plus additional specimen collection as needed and patient instruction on specimen collection. Preferred candidates may be certified as phlebotomy technicians and have prior experience drawing blood or in a clinical laboratory

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Certified as a phlebotomy technician.
• Previous experience drawing blood or phlebotomy training course in approved program.
• Previous experience in a clinical laboratory environment.

Responsibilities

• Performs all specimen collection by phlebotomy from the correct individual.
• Obtains other specimens when indicated.
• Instructs patients in the collection of specimens as necessary.
• Coordinates entry of pathology specimens into information systems and supports preparation and staining of cytology specimens.

Position Summary: Performs all specimen collection by phlebotomy from the correct individual at in-house or off-site locations. In addition, obtains other specimens when indicated, and instructs patients in the collection of specimens as necessary. May be required to enter pathology specimens into various computerized information systems along with the preparation and staining of cytology specimens. Performs tasks in all laboratory areas under the direction of the appropriate Supervisor, Clinical Laboratory Technologists, Cytotechnologists or other designated laboratory personnel and has appropriate knowledge and training of those areas to be able to function as necessary.
Required:

• High School diploma or equivalent

Preferred:

• Certified as a phlebotomy technician.
• Previous experience drawing blood or phlebotomy training course in approved program.
• Previous experience in a clinical laboratory environment.
